Can anyone explain the meaning of the letters "MD" on this title please?

I believe that the MD stands for "MOTOR DRIVER" The cap badge having a red background.
Each division, section, trade had it's own colour background to the cap badge. I have several images of the different types of badge backing.

If I remember correctly this information came from the Imperial War Museum data.
