My thoughts would be that silver badges marked L&Co have copper loops, rather than silver ones, I have never actually seen any examples that were marked with a complete set of hallmarks from any particular cycle.
In the case of marked silver examples, they simply have a "Sterling" mark upon their reverse. I have never seen an example that you could date beyond 1953 with a QE11 crown. All the examples I have ever encountered do have a degree of quality, the Foot Guards in particular, I think that it would certainly be interesting to know, exactly, the where and when. |

This may or not be of interest, eBay item
202702539334 (if the item can still be retrieved on the site) - a Buff's "L&Co" badge which sold a few days ago. Fitted with copper loops, described as "seems white metal but stamped STERLING". |

The only Ludlow badges I have are marked LUDLOW LONDON
though I think I've seen a L&Co on a DLI badge. They changed their name from Ludski to Ludlow in 1933. |

Are you suggesting that L&Co marked badges were made by Ludlow?

Frank,
I have a few badges with a full set of hallmarks, SWB, RMRE that I can easily recall. I'll have to check the others. Hwyl, Kevin |

Hello Kevin,
I would certainly be interested to see them, I don't think I have ever encountered a single example, which decade are they from and are they London or Birmingham? Regards Frank |

Here you go Frank.
From memory the hallmarks are:- 1. Large SWB c.1898. 2. Small SWB c.1943 3. L&Co SWB just marked Sterling. 4. RMREM c.1990s. 5. Welsh Regiment collars c. 1908. Hwyl, Kevin |

Hello Kevin,
I was just referring to badges actually marked L&Co, I have never seen a single example with a complete set of silver hallmarks of any cycle. Regards Frank |

I like the small Gaunt SWB in particular, is the first, larger example, Jennens?

Ah, got you. That’s the only L&Co badge I have so I can’t offer any further comment as to whether or not any have a full set of marks.
Yes the larger one is Jennens & the hallmarked smaller one Gaunt. |

I like all three, although, I had never seen an SWB by L&Co and I think that would be the one I'd buy if I was confronted by all three, all very nice though.
