Default CALGARY sHOW

Don't I wish - - The Mecca of Shows! In truth Calgray is starved for Militaria and Antique shows, we get very few. I believe if you are a gun collector, the past show is a very good one (advertised as Canada's largest). For the militaria collectors it is a good show, there must have been 3 or 4 major dealers and another 20 or so other dealers, plus some of the gun dealers will have an item or two. Sad isn't it!!, we sound excited about the show but in comparison to the weekend shows in Ont, it is small stuff. Now if anyone really wants to see a good selection of CEF militaria go to the UK, Camden Passage, Farnham, Bristol ect ect. The militaria on display at some of these shows is great. Anyway I have completed the images of some of the badges I found for posting on the Home Page, CEF Badges area. (71st is pretty)

Funny how things go, I always attend the shows in Etobicoke, Ottawa, Peterborough, and Cornwall Ontario. All I ever do is complain there too much to see, not enough time to see it all, and not enough money to pay for it all.

Alas, the same shall hold true for this Saturday's Etobicoke show. I have already closed a few deals for some items, none of the deals include badges, so when I attend the show, it will be with empty pockets

Greg......

Would you believe that I did not get a single thing at this years show that was directly related to my collecting field..... The first time I have been skunked in over 30 years...... But in a way I am glad as I was offered later a large collection of Canadian and South African Boer War Badges, some I had never seen before and some quite rare..... So I had the funds that enabled me to purchase them.....

Mike, What device would be in the centre of the badge for the SAC, or was there a device? (Excuse me, but I am not up on Boer War militaria.)

Hi Bill.....

A rosette with the colour of the Division that they belonged to would be worn in the center..... In this case if the man was wearing the epaulets he would have a green and yellow rosette.

Later when they put the Lion in the middle the colour yellow was used as a backing.....

This cap badge was used for a very short time as Victoria died shortly after the formation of the unit and it is extreamly hard to find a QVC cap badge....

The epaulets with the individual letters were also used for a very short time and then they went to the bar style....

A Division - Western Transvaal - White
B Division - Northern Transvaal - Light Green
C Division - Eastern Transvaal - Light Blue
E Division - Orange River Colony - Deep Yellow
Headquarters - Red

Default S.a.c. Slouch Cap Badges Type 2 And 3

Hi Bill.....

Here are the other SAC slouch hat badges.....

The voided one was the second type and had the colour of the division behind it.....

The solid one is the third type and the divisional colour was on the epaulets.....

There is a 4th slouch hat badge but I have never seen one either in a collection or ever for sale yet there are records that they were made and issued....... It is the Medical Division Badge, the same as the second type except it has a voided cross with a red cloth background......

You wouldn't happen to have one would you LOL.....

Mike

I cannot get the photos to upload if you wish to send me your email addy I will send them to you.......

Mike, Try resizing the images. They have to be smaller than a maximum size or they won't post.
