Default Location of Rank Insignia

Are you trying to recreate the uniform to a specific period of are you just doing up a generic Combat uniform?

In case there is any interest, here is an image that I have which nicely shows the placement of these badges.

Ed, a date for the image?
I believe there was some discussion at one point regarding combat insignia being worn on the epaulette?

Default Location of Combat Rank Insignia

The image I posted was from mid-1999. As far as the Combat uniform is concerned, rank insignia was only worn on the combat epaulette for a couple of years in the mid-1980s. Combat rank insignia had always been worn on the epaulette with the Parka and latter on the gortex Jacket that was introduced in the early 1990s.

Default Combat Rank on Epaulette

Here is an image from 1986. This trend to wear the rank on the Combat epaulette only lasted a couple of years.

Hi Ed

Worth adding that, while the use on the shoulders came and went, the rank remained on the slip-on for the smock and the AFV Crewsuit and AFV Winter Jacket epulettes, while we had that style combat clothing.

regards
Darrell
