Default CFS wings

These CFS wings were sold recently on Ebay but I have no idea what period. If it is post 1944, I thought you would have been RAAF already, before you went to flying school. Comments appreciated.

The construction looks quite modern - 1980s or 1990s or later.

I agree with Mick they look quite modern.
Very similar to construction the RNZAF pilot wings issued 1985 to current (though the back is different)
I think this is made by the same maker for a civilian pilots. CFS could mean Canterbury Flying School (which itself trained NZ pilots during ww1) or maybe designed as a fantasy item for pilots of the RNZAFs Central Flying School. Don't know.

I don't suppose the Country Fire Service in Victoria or one of the other states have qualified aircrew for fire assessment?

Hi fairlie63
In Victoria it is the CFA (Country Fire Authority) not CFS.
Just looking at the photo, I am certain this is New Zealand made.

I dont know about that but Vic is Country Fire Authority, ie CFA and NSW is Rural Fire Service, ie RFS.

Default CFS wings

Hi there Kingsley

I would have thought that the Central Flying School would have had a crown on top of the wings. This would not be the first time that this Ebay seller had described wings incorrectly - not on purpose but out of ignorance. A few weeks ago they tried to sell a set of KC Nav wings as the real thing but it had clutch grips on the back rather than a brooch fitting and no maker's name or date of production - a real giveaway!

Regards

Doug
