Dave,
shame the RNF are no longer with us, you could have sold them to their officers! Then they could have snapped off the lugs and stuck these on, as apparently they preferred sliders? Andy Last edited by 2747andy; 29-08-11 at 10:15 AM. |

I think it is you confusing matters! I have yet to see a slidered officers RNF badge... Does anyone have an example to show? Despite what officers may have preferred, the sealed patterns and manufacture of officer's badges saw them being fitted with either blades (folding type common to OSD badges but also found on S/G badges) or lugs/loops... Can members show examples of any slidered officer's badge which they may have to any British Regiment/Corps? Perhaps a new thread is called for? Best regards Andy |

yes looking at that could be, seen one other on ebay.
Looking at that wasted "T" of Marabout - it's the same on both badges so likely a B'mint one then. so its back to just your three.

Dont want to get involved in a discussion where others have considerable more knowledge than me but I would point out that the Liverpool Irish 1939 pattern officers badge had a slider.

Peter,
thanks for that, I'm sure that one has been on here in the past when the issue of slidered officers badges has cropped up! Do you have an image and is it the standard slider found on ORs badges? Best regards Andy |

Andy ,
I have a number of images but they do not belong to me ( I know someone who might be able to post one ).The other ranks badge was of a different design. It may be a one off example, but the point I was trying to make is that in this hobby/interest/obsession of ours, one of the things I have learnt is never to say never. Peter

Peter,
I am not saying for one minute that Officers badges were never slidered, the point I'm trying to make is that compared to other methods of fitting, they are not very common at all! I have shown my three examples, let's hope this thread can unearth a few more? Andy |

I have been following this thread and now realise that my first opinion of the posted badge was totally out.
Im grateful for all of your posts as I now know what to look for, I need both the NF and RNF badges. Cheers Phil

Just to muddy the waters regarding the badge in the opening post; It is that pattern, the sans-serif motto type, that is illustrated on the front of the book Fusilier Geordie, Anecdotes, Stories and Reminiscences of the Fifth, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers by Paddy Baxter and John Masters - Book covers the post WW2 period, printed 1997. (see thumbnails at the bottom of this post)
The badge on the book looks like it could possibly be an Anodised badge; referring to Wood's "The Fifth Fusiliers and its Badges" he has illustrated for the anodised badge 1952-59 ( number 180) the same sans-serif badge as on the Baxter/Masters book and the opening post badge, but a serif anodised pattern does exist because I've got one. (I know there is a thread debating if the anodised badge was worn at all) What perhaps is going on here is something seen across the regiments - a normal metal badge produced for PRI or collectors base on/or to replace the anodised version?

Anyone got an anodised version that looks like the badge in the opening post?

Mike, agree 100%! Perhaps the fakers copies the Firmin example, as I've yet to see a Wonky example with the SS font?
