Buttons with stars?
Hello All
All were found in Hobart .Tasmania, Australia Trying to get an ID on this button. Sorry the image i a bit dodgy. It has what appears to be over 7 stars connected by lines. In addition also found was a star button and cap badge that was thought to be the Cameronians However, I have not found any record of them visiting Hobart, Australia Any thoughts on these two? Are they the Cameronians |

The centre image could be of a Yugoslavian button, but being found in Hobart..........

Here they are.
Also a bit of background from the site it was found. Is a paddock at government house here that was used by the military as a staging in the 1800s - 1900s. Most of the other buttons seem to be Royal Navy 1850s ish range. Along with a bunch of livery buttons from the local governors around the same age range. The first one is the button with lots of stars. It does have an inscription but is is very very worn. Can only make out one part it is "nce *" The second is the single star button. The strung bugle may relate to one of the Volunteer rifle companies established in Hobart and its environs between 1860 and 1868. I say that because although the type of fittings are common on items manufactured on the Indian sub-continent, they also appear on pouch badges I have seen for the Derwent Rifles and similar units.
I can't suggest anything for the buttons and nothing similar appears in Buttons of the Defence Forces in Australia by Jeff Cossum. Keith |

The first button may be from the 1840-1860s.
I am giving the second button with the star a much wider date range: 1810s onwards. Does the back have letters at 12 o'clock? |

Upon closer inspection at 12 oclock it appears there is "W & W" printed.

I already searched my records for identical French military buttons, but I may have to page through Fallou. |

I managed to get hold of a PDF copy of Fallou and did look through it. Lots of stars but nothing that quite matched it. Gives me an avenue to look through though - cheers. |
