Lovat Scouts
The buck's head and encircling 'collar' are the same in both badges, but is it not the wording which differentiates the regimental badge of Lovat Scouts from that of the Fraser clan badge, and to be correct should the clan motto read 'Je Suis Preste', that is an 'e' on the end of the last word in Old French. I have probably got it all wrong but that is how I have always understood it.

After a closer look at Bain's I am not so sure it is the clan badge. Last edited by John L; 17-09-10 at 11:47 PM. Reason: additional comment |

Lovat Scouts Badges
Here is a small pattern, 100% genuine, with "Footed lugs" and endorsed by a Lambourne Makers Mark!
And the Larger "Strap & Buckle" pattern, again 100% genuine with small "Footed lugs"! Andy Last edited by Alan O; 07-11-13 at 02:54 PM. |

26mm Lovats full strike w/ Lambourne
Hi Andy, I have an option on a 26 mm Lovats with what looks a bit like a pinback conversion. It's full strike rather than hollow with the Lambourne stamp.
What would be a good price for this? Thanks for the help Quote:

Lovat Scouts
It is the Clan Fraser badge.
I am no expert on it, but believe the Lovat Scouts wore a badge with the clan motto replaced by the words 'Lovat Scouts', and I think there might be a purist on the forum who will say the correct wording of the clan motto should be the Old French, with an 'e' on the end of 'prest', but what do I know about these things, and I have an idea it has been pretty well covered in the past on this forum, and the threads are in here somewhere.

I have one that says Lovats Scouts, did it change over at some point or are they completely different badges?

Lovat Scouts
Cossack, I am not at all sure of my facts here, and could be so wrong, but I have always believed the 'Je Suis Prest' (Modern), or 'Je Suis Preste' (Old French spelling - of which I used to have such a badge) are purely badges of the Fraser clan, which would perhaps entitle a Lovat Scout who was a Fraser, or of one of the septs of Fraser, to wear the badge, but the regimental badge of the Lovat Scouts, and perhaps the badge worn by those not entitled to wear the badge of clan Fraser, bore the inscription 'Lovat Scouts' in place of the clan motto.
I have read a lot of inconclusive opinions on this matter in the past, and I too would be glad to know the true answer to this one. Regards, john

Can Forum members offer an opinion – original or restrike?
Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, Malcolm. |

I tend to now prefer those examples with a good depth of strike.
