Default Officers / NCOs 3rd Dragoon Guards badge for ID

Hi,
can anyone kindly advise on my Dragoons badge , appears gilded and possibly silver , plated ..... , if Officers or NCO , period of use
and if of value.
many thanks
Steve

I have cleaned the dirt off the badge now , and changed the photos which display that it has lug fittings to scrole and upper sectionis seperately attatched...certainly screams quality ....

Steve,

This set of photos make it look better, from the front.

I am still uncertain of it from the rear though with copper loops on what should be a silver badge and the almost filed surface appearance. I would expect to see silver loops.

Maybe I am seeing to much, its just an opinion, I would welcome others views as I am sure you would to.

regards

Jennens & Co...

Sometimes they put their mark into the back... I have a 10th Hussars OSD collar example in my image collection ( i will dig it out). Its a common POWFs for the officers pre 1914.... seen in most of the POWFs wearing Regiments. The back image varies over time.

Griff,

Excuse my confusion, but why is the 3DG badge by Jennens?

The solid rear of the plumes on your example (typical of a quality officers badge) bears no resemblance to the stamped out rear of the plumes of the 3DG badge.

The loops look like they are not original to the badge and there are also signs on the ends of the scroll rear that indicate that loops may have been removed.

I am not happy all is correct.

regards

Simon

Do you want to see another Jennens 10H OSD collar.... with a different back image and stamped J&Co on the scroll?

Griff,

If you think it would help, but I would really like to see silver/gilt versions of this badge to compare.

regards

Here you go... and in the mean time I will dig out all the silver gilt images of the Jennens POWFs i have in ...all their forms.

* Note that this is a two part badge.... the scroll has been braised on and then the badge has been bronzed.

Another 3DG, a collar, that compliments the SP/G cap badge in question....

For what it is worth, I think the badge in question is OK. I find many of these cast officer's badges have a somewhat crude appearance to their reverse. I also like the pinned on feature of the coronet.
As to time frame, impossible to say with certainty, although highly likely WW1 era.
Certainly not a common badge, but as the 3rd DG is not a particularly "hot" regiment among collectors, it would not have a high value I would say.
