Lugs Used On Dowler Anodised Aluminium Cap Badges
Hi Guys,
Attached is a photo of one of the lugs that I am unable at present to assign a maker too. I believe it to be from Dowler but need someone to confirm it. The badge is of the Army Fire Service and I would like members to see if they have any marked Dowler badges with the same lugs. The points to look for are as follows: 1) Made of wire as opposed to a punched strip of aluminium. 2) Wire is curved on the outside edge and partly to the edge top where it flattens out. This looks like a Gaunt lug but Gaunt lugs are more predominantly flat on the outside edge. 3) The lugs have sweeping feet which may be covered in solder. Lugs used on Gaunt marked badges are without feet. If you can have a look through your collections we may be able to identify Dowler as the user of this lug type. Chris,
I have never seen any lugged badges by this maker. Either they did not make any or did not mark them. Alan |

It's more or the latter I think as we have a sealed pattern card for an anodised trade badge marked 'Dowler' with what looks like these lugs. Unfortunately the badge and especially the lugs have been damaged and while 90% sure that these lugs are used by Dowler I cannot be 100%. Again, these are one of the very few lug types that I currently unable to assign a maker/user too hence this thread. Thanks Alan!!! Regards Chris Last edited by hagwalther; 10-05-09 at 08:50 PM. |

Hi Paddy,
Thanks - I think these are pretty rare items in marked lug form. Regards Chris |
