Were these actually worn during Operation Granby? A black jerboa.

Tim,

I was under the impression that tea was only used to age documents. Yes, to me it’s surprising that some dealers have large stocks of WW2 patches which look immaculate and are passed off as pre 1945.

7th Armoured on middle row left appears tea stained, while 6th Armoured on top row is pure white!

[QUOTE=sturm;607829]Were these actually worn during Operation Granby? A black jerboa.

This black and white version came into use in February 2014, for wear by members of 7th Infantry Brigade and Headquarters East.

4th Armd Bde soon copied as seen in this photo.

As far as I am aware they were embroidered. The 1990s ones were the WW2 orange shade then someone got the order wrong and when I was with the Bde in KFOR the issued ones were red. The orange matched the WW2 ones when the only dye available was the orange.

Yes it is being a pre 1929 cap badge. I suspect it was an ancestor's badge and possibly the hat too.

Copies made by Nick Hall at Sabre sales,Made in the 1970s I think there where about 7 formations He did ,this one ,cross keys ,A black an white Australian one with boomerang on plus a few more ,I need to do them all in a post together ,they were manufactured on aged heavy cloth and to be fair did look good nothing like the new white backing fakes shown in post 16 ,unfortunately they are now well and truly established in the food chain and a lot of dealers and collectors believe them original but they are not.

Default Cloth formation signs

I wonder why collectors buy fake formation signs, the original ones are not that expensive.

Er, ahem, in my case it's because I bought a few of those tea stained printed things years ago before I knew no better. I know, excuses, excuses.......
Oh just realised, you mean why reenactors buy fake instead of genuine? I'm all in favour of that, preserve the original, wear the fake tat.
