Default Thoughts please

could not make up my mind on this item, as it was only £7 with postage thought i would take a chance.
Although it does have the J & Co maker mark quality could be better. Especially around the Centre. Have not handled a badge with this exact same type of metal. Metal appears to be copper. However that said it does not bend and is quite heavy.
Appreciate any comments.P7250107.jpg

Hi I have the same officers Jennings & Co badge but with with a deep chocolate finish. I’d say it’s ok it’s just missing its finish.

That was quick holyboy. Yes they do look very similar. Maybe some one has over cleaned it.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Default Just a thought

I often buy badges for repair to put with groups of medals. They look incredibly convincing but when you put a blow torch anywhere near them they melt - which a genuine wouldn't. I'd say give it go with the blow torch and if it crumbles it's a fake. If it remains in one piece then it's right.

Well I do know a man with a blow torch, not sure I am that confident of doing that. But will give it some thought.see you live near Plymouth. I also know BJ.
Thanks for the advice.

Default A safer alternative

Also, try making with a scriber and compare with say an old brass badge. If it marks easily like lead or pewter then it's fake. Yes, I've know BJ for many years. Best regards.

Why not just give it a twist, if it's soft zinc type metal then it'll just bend.

Chay and Magpie, thanks for your input. So gave it a good twist, and attempted to bend it ( carefully ) no movement. Really solid badge. gave it a little ( tiny ) scratch. Result was same as standard brass badge, IE it did not mark easily. So i am now pretty confident this is a genuine item. looks same as Holyboys badge. i think some one has used a chemical to clean this badge, as it is the same colour over the entire badge. Thanks all for taking time to comment.
