It is a OR cap (etc) badge - War Office Pattern 10042/1926. It was authorised in September (or was it October) 1926 but it's issue was delayed until the beginning of 1927. This Pattern was worn up to March 1950. yours is a later one as there are no braze holes.

There are three variants of 10042/1926 (mind you, there were about 20 different die variants of the previous badge 4362A/1896 and worn up to Sept / Oct 1926.)

This one - yours - is the most common. But here are the three 1926 variants.

Gents,

As always very positive and informative replies.

I had written this one off to the crap box.

Thankyou.

Default Kings Liverpool - Rectangular Braze Holes?

Hi Gents,

Posting this second Kings Liverpool, straight rear legs and long tail, but the back is very different with rectangular and round braze holes on the scroll.
Is this one of the 20 variants that KLR spoke about on a previous post or a fake lash up?
Your comments and opinions would be very welcome.

Regards

Kevin

No, it's still a 1926 Pattern - what I call it 1926/1 (as in p3) - however the long forelock is mildly scarce.

The 20 dies I defined were for the 1896 Pattern (worn during the 1st WW) but it's 1926 successor tried to be more uniform. There are variants in the arrangement of the braze holes - or none.
