Silver hallmark help
Can the sharp eyed help out with this hallmark. It's for sale as 1866. I have my doubts about this . I think it's far later and that would fit with my take on the badge it's on.
Any help appreciated. |

Not 1866 - "A further mark was used in the period 1784 - 1890:
Sovereign head ('duty mark'), certifying the payment of the duty" Anchor - Lion - H is Birmingham 1932 Anchor - Lion - R is Birmingham 1941 Letter K was used in 1934 but 'duty mark' was also used on 1934 & 1935 items. http://www.silvercollection.it/engli...lmarksBIR.html

The date mark looks like anchor (B'ham) - lion (sterling) - F = 1930 to me

I thought that it could be an F. My thought was that it was 1930 if an F or 1941 if it's an R.
As mentioned previously there is no sovereigns head. Which was why I doubted it was Victorian. The badge is a KRRC belt plate made by Gaunts. It has just the bare minimum of battle honours on it which as far as I was aware was used post 1905 |

There are very two similar marks - 1902 or 1927.
I think it is the latter - the top of the c mark is much more likely to be 1927 Last edited by KLR; 14-07-20 at 07:29 PM. Reason: typo |

Thanks Julian ,I wasnt sure. They do look very very similar. The WW1 battle honours are there so it must be 1927.

The Cross doesnt have the " Busaco" battle honour on the cross . Which would make it an early version of the Cross. Busaco appears from1905 on the new version of the 60th rifles version of the cross. |
