12th Mounted rifles cap badge CEF
Here is a nice 12th Mounted Rifles CEF cap badge.
Organized in December 1914 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel George Macdonald. Mobilized at Calgary, recruited in Calgary and Red Deer. Left Montreal 9 October 1915 aboard MISSANABIE, arrived in England 18 October 1915. Perpetuated by the 15th Canadian Light Horse which, in 1936, amalgamated with The South Alberta Horse to form the 15th Alberta Light Horse. Mike |

Very nice Mike.
can I ask the rough dimensions? I have one, but it appears to me, to be slightly small, so I am thinking maybe a collar?? Cheers, Tim |

Gents,
With the measurements given, both are cap badges. With pointed serifs on the '2' they are either Hemsley or Inglis. The collar badge measures 31mm x 29mm. Attached are a few of the variations I have of this unit in my small collection. The top row shows a maker marked Inglis cap badge and a non-maker marked (pointed serif) collar. The bottom row shows a non-maker marked (blunt serif) Tiptaft cap and a voided (unknown) cap, the numbers '12' being sweated onto 2 bars. Apologies for the photo, but that isn't my forte |
