Hi,
The lugs don't look anodised - are they brass or something odd?

Alan they appear to be gold coloured not sure of the metal also the badge is quite heavy the badge is from the january postal and is described as early anodised regards alan

Looks like

23 Royal Artillery (35mm High - Separate Wheel)

does exist viewing the photos supplied so will remove it from the list.

Hi Alan,

This is a interesting badge.

Do you have any really accurate weighing scales? I do quite a bit of Full-Bore Target Rifle shooting down here in New Zealand and make my own ammunition. As such, I have some pretty accurate digital scales for weighting out propellant and projectiles. Do you have access to the same sort of equipment or jewellers scales etc and if so can you weight and compare with a similar size badge with similar area?

What we are looking for here is to confirm that the material is aluminium. I would have thought that the lugs should be aluminium too.

Do the lugs have their own 'base' plate? I ask this as with zink based German combat badges (my main collecting area) the hinges and clasps needed a larger surface area to allow solder to bond with the zink material - I'm just trying to confirm the material used here.

I also note that there is a small round mark on the reverse lower left loop. Is this a 'bubble' of some sort?

45mm
40mm
35mm

high.

Can the badge in question be measured?

Hi chris i will see what i can do regarding the weight yes there are 2 bubbles where the loops are attached i will try and find out some more information from bosleys regards alan

Please look at the pictures of the Royal Artillery badges. The second pattern (1960's) is a lot different to the first.

It is the second pattern badge that has a wheel added and is 38 to 40 mm high. As far as I know the first badge (an anodised aluminium version of the original brass one) does not come with a seperate wheel.
