If you’re seeking a WW1 example to complement the sil wound badge you mentioned previously I would look for a GM or Bronzed badge rather than the later WM badges.

Hi Luke,

Yes, I am still looking for a GM one to go with the wound badge but wouldn't mind one of these for my collection. So, are the WM ones late ww1 ?

Cheers, mark

The regiment wore w/m ones I WW2. Not sure of the date of changeover but I think that it was likely to be post WW1 when the regiment re-roled to RAC and the black beret was adopted.

No definitive dates I’m afraid but the smaller badge is post WW1. It’s also found in GM but in much smaller numbers compared to the WM version.

In 1921 the Derbyshire Yeo became a COY in the Tank Corps. Keith Hook has a theory that the smaller badge in GM was worn 1921-1923 i.e. complementary to the GM Tank Corps badges with the WM versions struck in 1924 and thereafter (into WW2) to match the new RTC badge in WM.

Sounds convincing to me and would certainly explain the disparity in numbers this version is found in GM v’s WM.
