Default NZ military police beret

I have just acquired a navy blue/black beret (no label - lining cut out) bearing an anodised EIIR ‘Royal NZ Provost’ cap badge on a Royal blue badge backing. I understood that the beret colour changed for NZ military police from Royal Blue to dark blue in 2002 and that the cap badge changed from ‘Royal NZ Provost’ to the current ‘RNZMP’ in 1981. This would seem to indicate that my beret is wrong (and a ‘put- together’) but the badge looks like it been on the beret for ages and not disturbed, so could there be any other explanation for this anomaly?

Beret colour should be Royal blue to match the badge, all corps that didn't have their own coloured beret wore the standard dark blue beret.
Are there any extra holes showing on the reinforced badge backing?
Maybe a picture?

1964 RNZ Provost adopted the Purple Navy Beret.
1981 RNZ Provosgt became RNZMP. RNZMP retained Purple Navy Beret
1983/84 RNZMP changed to Royal Blue Beret
2003 changed to NZ Army Rifle Green Beret
In the last couple of years, RNZMP has changed back to the Purple Navy Beret and then back to the Royal Blue Beret.

No Flashes were worn by RNZPro or RNZMP behind their badges.

Thank you for the comprehensive replies. May I ask for clarification of what shade of blue is ‘purple navy’ ? I attach a photo of my beret (sorry about the quality) - is the badge backing ‘purple navy’? (There are no signs of any other badge ever being on this beret.)

From your explanations it sounds like my beret is a put-together - should it go in the bin?

Purple Blue is a dark blue used on many NZ Army Berets from 1964 to 2003.

Its British Colour Council Number(BCC) is BCC 219, The backing on your example looks like Royal Blue BCC 197.

Probably a put-together item.
