I know what it looks like, but what is it?
It looks like a standard QC RA Beret badge but..... it is not AA and I don't think it is Brass also I have never seen a slider this shape!
On the reverse it is marked EVCO and X-1-2633-78 Is it a proper badge or a duffer, any help appreciated. Thanks Steve |

Is that a slider found on Canadian badges?

That style of slider is found on modern Canadian badges.

Thanks again Luke, another case of the power of the forum, I was thinking this was a 'Duffer'.

Perhaps try re-posting in the Canadian section of the forum. I’m sure there it will be more likely to be seen by those in the know and get you an answer quickly.

This dealer has a section for EVCO which appears to be the maker , there are 2 badges with EVCO 79 marks. Possibly the other number , X-1-2633-78 , is a design/catalog number ? https://www.marway-militaria.com/col...vendors?q=EVCO .

Did a search on the forum/internet and found examples (thread from 2008) of badges with :
EVCO EVCO 79 EVCO 80 and , this may be a clue ...... TAIWAN on left side and EVCO 79 on the right . Suggestions were that 79/80 were manufacturing dates. The TAIWAN part is a mystery , it is on an RCR badge , as in 1979 the U.S introduced the "Taiwan Relations Act" due to Taiwan's status with China. Is it possible that the manufacturing of some badges was officially 'outsourced' to China (Taiwan) ? Or were these badges specially produced for the "collectors" market like the Danbury Mint ones ? .

Well done Mike ( I think) still a bit of a mystery but I wasn't expecting that. At a time when we were still issuing AA, this is a much nicer quality badge.
Thanks Regards Steve |

In the late 1970's, the Dept of National Defence required badges to be date stamped for each contract. That reflected the year the contract was filled. The badge is a type of plating which is seen on many contemporary Canadian badges. The Taiwan mark indicates the badges were made in that country, but under the control of EVCO.

Bill 'Thankyou' for a chapter and verse reply, and as an original badge it is a keeper.
One last question : who are or were EVCO ? Regards |
