My thoughts , first badge has possible Lancashire connection, second badge a Rifle Volunteer item.

Hello Peter
My best guess for the second badge has been the 36th (Crewe) Cheshire RV but I haven’t been able to prove it. It’s definitely not the precedence number. Kevin |

Pro Libertate Patrie is the motto of, amongst others, The Wallace Family, of William Wallace fame and have connections with Ayrshire.

Thanks for that Brian.
Unfortunately Ayrshire didn’t have 36 corps, so the mystery continues. Kevin |

Kevin,
The oak leaves would be appropriate for a Cheshire ( Crewe ) unit. Member Mercian may be able to help. Peter

One of the families to use the motto is Massey of Cheshire.

Yes it has.
What unit am I thinking of re. the 3 lions with whatever that horizontal bar across the top of them is? Is it a Lancashire unit Peter? I can't place it, all I can remember is that device is known in white metal. |

Sorry. I’m trying to send a personal message to Mercian and only having just discovering how to attach images I can’t seem to find how to attach them on personal messages. I must have accidentally deleted it as I don’t really know what I’m doing. Here is the picture again.

Kevin,
In the meantime I have checked Mercians book on Cheshire RVC’s and the badge is not in there. There are several 36th items none of which resemble yours. George may know more though Best wishes

Three Lions
Three Lions appear on the Leicestershire Volunteer collar badges, could this badge be Leicester related?
