East Surrey beret badge, QC
Hi All,
A recent acquisition that's a bit of a puzzle. It is the smaller sized badge for the beret. It is two-pieced, the crown and shield/castle affixed to the star which seems to be gilding metal, not white metal. There are traces of black both on the front and the back. Was there a QC "blackened brass" version? Thanks, Tinto |

Showing this again. Hope Matti, the East Surrey expert, can help.

Based on the images I'd start with a good clean?

Thanks for the advice, Thomas.
I "grasped the bull by the horns" and used lemon juice to remove the gunge. Here is the result, a "normal" badge. Cheers, Tinto |

Tinto,
I would be very suspicious of any QC East Surrey beret badge that was not maker marked and I think that crud was probably added on purpose? Best Regards Andy Last edited by 2747andy; 18-09-14 at 03:24 AM. |

That's interesting, Andy. Only cost me $5.00 (£2.5) so no harm done.
