Default Jellalabad battle honour

I have been doing some research on this battle honour and have discovered it is very art of a massive cover up by the British Army and Government during the Afghan Wars of Queen Victoria’s reign to hide regimental shame.
The actual battle that is covered by the title was actually carried out by a platoon sized unit under the command of a young subaltern straight out of Sandhurst.
The subaltern was a certain Charles Courage-Wethirspoon 3rd Barronet
His unit was tasked to attack and subdue a compound in the local area.
Like all officers he read his map incorrectly whilst his Staff Serjeant smiled ironically and in fact they a blancmange factory.
The rueful smile of his Serjeant was further increased into a 22nd of foot grin and the comment
‘Sir, you made that jelly look bad’
This comment was then applied to the action to cover up. Most embarrassing mistake.
The subaltern later took over a brewing company.
