Royal Armoured Corps
Hi all. Can anyone tell me if the RAC cap badge is actually still worn? I have a vague recolection of being told that it was only worn by the RAC staff band but do not know if that is correct or if the band itself still exists?
Thanks in advance. Tony |

Does the attached photo of Kelly Holmes as Colonel Commandant of the Royal Armoured Corps Training Regiment answer your question?
Do its soldiers wear the mailed fist until posted to a specific RAC Regiment? Jon |

As much as i loved what Kelly Holmes did as an athlete. Why on earth is she a Colonel Commandant ? She was dressed up in another uniform not long ago. Possibly the Queens funeral.
She was in the Really Large Corps as a driver originally. Did she serve in the APTC later ,im not sure ? |

As for soldiers wearing it before being posted? When I was posted to the Army Training Regiment Winchester (as staff 2001-03), all recruits to regiments within the RAC wore their own regimental cap badges during phase one training, whether they continued to do so in phase two, when they went off to the RAC training centre at Bovington I don't know? I did wonder if staff at the centre wore the RAC cap badge, but cant see trained and experienced NCO's being too keen to give up their individual regiment cap badges for a RAC one? |

The cap badge was and possibly still is worn by the Band of the Royal Armoured Corps based at Catterick.
