1st KDG
I picked up these Victorian collar badges of 1st Kings Dragoon Guards. I am trying to work out the years these were worn. There appeared to be a change in 1906, so are these collar badges 1898-1906 or are these 1898-1915?

Hi All
just bumping this thread up, as I am after a pair of Victorian 1KDG collards, and would love to know if there are any identifying features between Victorian and 1901 - 15 issues. At present, I'm relying on dark toned lugs, but possibly a design change can date these? Cheers, Tim Last edited by Chipper; 24-01-21 at 04:53 PM. |

KDG Collar Badges
Hello
The 1st pattern 1898 other ranks collar was a large Hapsburg eagle in gilding metal apprx. 42mm high x 37mm wide, with the diamond shaped tail, very similar to the NCO arm badge and was I believe worn for a very short period maybe until 1901. It was followed by the smaller eagle as shown in Drmiggy's post which were worn until the change in cap badge 1915. I hope that is of help. Rob

Army Order 292 of the 1st of September 1914 in effect laid aside Home Service Full Dress and the collar badges worn upon it for the duration of the war, notwithstanding, the collar badges survived upon Service Dress for some time beyond, in particular with rank and file serving at the various Cavalry Depots.
