Bays badge
Don't have any info on mark...I presume the badge was 'between the wars'?
It has seen some service and a neat repair. PS....I have bought the one that started this thread!! |

I have had a look through a book I have on all the documented silversmith names - on the off chance that the maker may have made silver ones as well - but no joy. |

Just had another look at the "MHOS" mark on mine and its slightly different to yours in that each letter is separated by a full stop. Yurs seems to have an "!" mark between the MH - or is my eyes...?

Bays badge
I must point out that the 'Repaired' badge belonged to Frank Foster MM was a Sgt. in Bays WW2, stayed on through amalgamation to QDG, and finished his service as a Major.
I've always believed that the repaired badge was an old one , between the wars.....it even has a patch of old leather shaped to the reverse side.....see bottom centre first pic. I had much of Franks stuff from his family. Incidentally Howard was no wiser than us re makers mark. Last edited by sketchley kid; 03-07-13 at 03:48 PM. |

I think you are right about this arm badge dating from between the wars, and I suspect it is of foreign manufacture. The style of the mark suggests India to me and that's exactly were the Bays were 1922 to 1928. Of course this doesn't actually prove anything, but IMO its more likely Indian made than say German. I'll let you know if I get a match, on a maker. Regards Rob |

Bays badge
That is my opinion, the one I've had all along, if not pure silver very high content.
Another pic for you to show Bays arm badges... Offenburg 1950....note that the collar dogs have not been issued post war yet.came back in mid 1950's. |

Thanks for the posting the photo. I've seen this somewhere? is it in a regimental history or maybe a journal? your point re collars noted.
Just as an aside, its nice to see a picture taken from the right, as so often when your looking to see arm badges in wear the blasted photographer has taken it from the left! Rob |

Bays badge
I have posted pic before, maybe on here, it is one from my collection.
David, best I can do, don't have top of range camera, not much skill and it is heavily beezed, shines too much. Here is another from same parade. Last edited by sketchley kid; 03-07-13 at 09:38 PM. |

That'll do. India sounds promising as well, although that may make it even harder to track down. I don't have much reference stuff on Indian manufacturers.
