unknown shied/sweethearts/monogram?
hi all
any ideas what this is? I've always thought circa WW1 1917,but the hallmark S could indicate 1942 but looking closely maybe even 1967? English made in Birmingham by V & S Vaughton & Sons anyway, looking forward to your thoughts BC |

Unknown Pin
I do not know anything about the pin but regarding dating looking up the silversmith makers stamp of V & S I get Vaughton and Sons on the British Hallmark site, then searching that silversmith found the below approximate trading date of 1906 to 1916 so I would go with the WW I year, 1917 (approximate trading dates and delay on hallmarking make the 1917 mark extremely likely). They are still trading today but just as Vaughtons.
From the Science Museum site https://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/ Vaughtons Limited NATIONALITY: British Established Birmingham 1819 as silver and goldsmiths; Vaughton & Son from 1889; Vaughton Brothers 1901; P Vaughton & Son, c 1906 to 1916; 'makers of all kinds of medals, badges, tickets, challenge cups and shields, vases, salvers, spoons, etc., for every kind of sport and competition'; 1908 appointed Medallists to the Olympic Games at the Franco-British Exhibition. Out of interest I quickly searched the initials C B K on the NAA and I couldn’t find a record with those initials and a surname starting with S (got a record of C K B White! Long shot doing a quick search with only the initials!)…
