I've not seen a shield-shaped version before.

Was it the UTP that also wore this Anchor badge?

Thanks for the replies gents.

Can I also confirm this is the formation sign for the 227th Independent Infantry Brigade?

Cole does not list the badge as that of 227th Brigade but Waring does.

One version of the fouled anchor worn by the Port of London Bn of the Home Guard is attached but there is another, neither being shield-shaped.

Thanks Jon.

The shield shape has me stumped.

I think it's time for somebody to start an updated piece of reference on WW2 Formation Signs collating all the information available.

Joslen states that 227 Inf Bde was subordinate to HQ Scottish Command until it was "chopped" to 15 (S) Inf Div where it remained until post-VE Day. 228 Inf Bde on the other hand was subordinate to HQ OSDEF. My old and battered John Waring Identification Pamphlet No 1 has been amended in my own hand(but on what authority I cannot recall) changing the designation of the illustration to JW1/324 from 227 Indep Inf Bde to 228 Indep Inf Bde. If that is the case, the wearing of the anchor by 228 Inf Bde seems entirely logical.

Thanks for that info Mike.

I'll contact Jon on the possibility of a new reference book.

Regards

Paul
