Default 14th/20th Hussars

Can anyone tell if these are collar badges, they are the same size as the cap badge and have lugs.
If not collars could the right facing one be an arm badge? please bare with me on this, I read some where but do not know if this is true that a Gurkha regiment helped out the 14th/20th in some battle and the regiment awarded them to wear as an arm badge the right facing eagle.
Can anyone shed some light on this is it true or false.

Cheers
Malc

Not sure about the Gurkhas but the 14/20th Hussars certainly wore the Gurkha Kukris on their tunic sleeves. I am not sure if it was reciprocal.

Hi Malc,

Default Gurkha arm badges

The 6th Queen Elizabeth's Own Gurkha Rifles wore the Prussian eagle badge on each shoulder to commemorate joint service with the 14th /20th Hussars in Italy during WW2 as part of 43 Gurkha Lorried Infantry Brigade.
Hope this helps.

Recieved the following comments from a friend.

Quote:
Interesting badges you posted. Certainly not a matched pair but I'm not sure they were 14/20th as I always thought their collars were the small roundels (mini cartwheel). The OR's 14th H wore eagles as collars but in w/m however the birds heads faced inwards but the orb was carried in the same right foot on both. All I can think is they might be officers gilt patterns where the foot detail matched the heads.
Anyone agree/disagree with these points mentioned.

Cheers
Malc

Nice badges, I need them Let me know if you plan on parting with them.

The collar badges that were worn in the 1930's were the cartwheels with the eagle cap badge. I saw a postcard on sunday which illustrated this, I wish I had bought it now.

If you ask me I think these are pre WW1 OR collars.

Look out for the seller hotminicooper on eBay, someone he knows clearly has some dies for these and they being reproduced. The examples shown here are most certainly not reproductions.

Ive seen badges similar as a facing pair of collar badges worn by the Bandmaster in a photograph dated late 1970`s - early 1980`s.
If i remember correctly the gurkha badge was silver rather than a gold colour.

Hi, I read this thread with interest so thought I'd look at mine. Now I'm totally confused. Can anyone tell me what they are? The second gilt badge has a Firmin London mark.

just thought I would chuck my chicken in here as well.

I am under the impression that this is a 6th Gurkha Rifles arm badge as mentioned. Although I don't have a text on the subject, so I stand to be corrected.

Cheers Mike.

just noticed the tiny second orb between the wing and sceptre in this badge design. Funny how you only notice things in a photo and not on the real thing. On Joachim's opening post badges only one has this tiny second orb.

Hi Mike ,

As I see it reference the Collar Eagles 14th & 14th/20th is as below.

14th Hussars : Offrs Collars , Blk& Gilt, Gilt . Facing pairs with Orb on both pairs inner most . On the chest of eagle Fr which make these a 2 piece badge.

Other ranks : W/M Facing Pairs again Whoever the orb is on the right of both collars. No FR on Chest 1 piece badge

14th/20th ; Offrs only. Blk & Gilt, Gilt . Facing pairs with Orb on both pairs outter most . These are slight larger than the 14th Hussar. Note again these are one piece badges NO FR on the chests

Other ranks ; As mentioned before No eagle version collars. They wore chartwheel collars

Mike, Iam no expert to this regiment but I hope this give you a better idea
