Tim,
I am surprised that the vendor over looked Northants Yeomanry! Matti |

If £22 is too much, anyone who is interested can have this badge for £20 ( inc. p and p) and you can call it what you like.

Doesn't look like Royal West Kent to me; more like Kings. David

Looks broken to me, a five-eight pound badge worth pennies as it has no scroll. If a scroll turned up it would be Dave I'd be calling. It would have to be a really rare badge for a collector to invest in if it is broken.

I think the highest bidder might have a spare "Wiltshire "scroll.

King's and Queen's
PB,
Can't let this go without this suggestion! No disrespect intended to collectors to these fine Regiments! Just Photoshop! No brazing involved. Tim

Tim,
The possibilities are endless, now all I need is a fake MGC cap badge and the soldering iron and the next step will be E bay. Peter

KLR might have some further comments to make. The Kings did have a pattern of badge without the scroll.
Attached is a picture of the Kings Liverpool collection of Harry Usher a well known collector from the 1940`s and 1950`s. You can see that he had an example of the scroll less badge which is below the Liverpool Rifles badges and above the Liverpool Irish ones. I believe the badge illustrated had two lugs to the rear. It may well be that the puchaser of the badge on E bay thought that he was buying a scarce badge, but my opinion is that it is actually a pre 1926 pattern badge with the scroll broken off. P.B.

I had been watching this badge for a while - it never had a scroll. I recognised it immediately - there are some particularly distinctive elements to it. I know exactly what it is as I found the relevant identification at the National Archives. I have a version with lugs. I'm a little surprised that it was in use up to the introduction of the slider.
I would be very interested in getting in touch with the buyer. He/she has acquired a number of interesting King's badges recently. I am doing a lot of research for a (serious) book on King's badges (1881-1958). There are well known collectors here that I'm working with but the chance to meet exchange information with other collectors would be most welcome ! Julian |
