Thanks for the correction ST, that means it's the collar that goes with this cap badge then, all the best,

Now knowing that the badge is white metal, clearly my previous suggestion that it was RMA is irrelevant. Photographs are sometimes deceiving so acually declaring the metal would save a lot of time with diagnosis ! David

The Volunteer Artillery 1859-1908.
Good evening.
Mr. Litchfield notes there were three patterns of other ranks` collar badges in white metal worn from 1880-1908 and being some 1.5 inches high. The shape of the flame and the number of points varies. The three shapes are depicted in the book I have referred to above, at Figs. 31-33 inc. He also noted that from c. 1860-1902 a white metal grenade approximately 1.75 inches high was worn on the pill box or peaked cap and was used by many corps. He goes on to note that there are three recorded versions of this grenade with seven, ten or fourteen flames. These are illustrated as Figs. 18-20 inc. The example illustrated above by member orasot appears to be Fig. 18. Enjoy. ST. Last edited by Silver Tourist; 06-07-11 at 11:21 PM. |
