Smile Cameronians

The Victorian Cameronians had a bronzed /blackened brass finished badge. I would think your example could well have been needlessly cleaned.

Agreed!
looks like an early pattern blackened brass example, some damage/missing lower ribbon end.. I've seen a few of these which have been either cleaned or had the blackened finish removed? Either in ignorance or possibly by old soldiers on the change from BB to Wm?

Default Cameronians

Pity about the ribbon end, this badge as discussed before is Victorian and not very common, may I suggest a word with Dave the badge repairer with the possibility of a tassle addition and re-bronzing?

BC,
as mentioned above Dave could do an "Amy Whitehouse" on this one, the ribbon end could be sourced from a broken or even repro Wm Cameronians, of which there are plenty about...

They are scarce and I should imagine a genuine blackened example would set you back £80-100+, so well worth sending to Tamworth!

Andy

P.S. for the more benefit of the more elderly or less "Hip" members Amy Winehouse had a hit (song, record or 78 in old speak ) with "Back to Black".

BC,
I think it should be black rather than bronzed, the Cameronians being the Scottish Rifles! Here's mine which has been re-blackened.

Default Cameronians

I got my Cameronians about forty plus years ago with a collection of badges and at first I thought it was an OSD. The finish being bronzed brass.

Always good to have healthy debate, however, the only bronzed Infantry ORs cap badge that I've ever come across is that of the PWRR. Which I admit is an "All Ranks" beret badge.. the norm for Infantry ORs whether Rifles or Territorial Bns I always thought was black?

There are several Yeomanry ORs bronzed badges!

Perhaps the bronzed appearance is due to discolouration? K&K (KK630) seems to think they were blackened?

To be safe I go with black!

Andy

Smile Paint it black . . !

Henry Ford did much the same . . !

I agree with the Cameronians being black as they were a Rifle Regt, however looking further into it Bloomer's Scottish Regimental Badges1793-1971, page 18, item 102 states that they had an officer's glengarry c1881-7 in bronze.

My first impressions of it being an OSD were not too far off.
