Lovely album, thanks for sharing them. Have you any information on the Loyal Dublin Volunteers badge? To be honest I know nothing about that particular group but have heard on occasion that the LDV were an anti Home Rule group similar to the UVF in Ulster. Would love to confirm whether they were or not.

VTC Various
Gentlemen,
Thanks for your interest and comments! 41st, Very nice! I'm envious, as the Welsh form a big gap in my collection. Nice to see your Fattorini Carnarvonshire, as although I'm sure mine is a Fattorini too (same flaws!) it is not marked; I've also seen this with flat lugs. Yorkie, Sympathies, mayne; there are 2 examples of fake Fattorini marks in this thread so who knows... Ulsterman, You know about as much as I do! My information, from the Bulletin of the Military Historical Society, is that the LDV were affiliated to the UVF, and recruited from Orange lodges and other Protestant fraternities in the city centre, South Co Dublin and North Co Wicklow, and were a khaki uniform. For once the www is almost completely blank on the subject. Irish VTC badges are very scarce, with LDV probably being the exception... Best regards, Tim |

Tim,
I note your comments on the flaws for the Carnarvonshire (apart from the spelling as it's the English version), the bar at the top of the 'T' being identical. As to the use of flat lugs, all other Welsh VTC badges that I've come across have them. I'm missing Carmarthen (sic) and I know there is one to Neath but have only seen one. Cofion gorau, Kevin |

Newcastle-upon-Tyne Citizens Training League lapel badge.JPG
Newcastle-upon-Tyne Citizens Training League lapel badge, forerunner to the VTC. New to the Forum and came across this post on the VTC. Am attaching a couple of photo's of lapel badges from my own collection not mentioned or seen in your album. I also have a decent collection of photo's and other items relating to the VTC, which outside of the Northumberland Fusiliers, has been a soft spot of mine for many years. |

Possibly Tynemouth V.T.C. cap badge.JPG
A mystery one that may be Tynemouth VTC. Based on Tynemouth's coat of arms, municipal badges were usually in whitemetal, whereas this one in gm. I have the Whitley Bay & Monkseaton one too, but mine is lugged, as well as what is the Newcastle one, again in gm, but it's small(lugged) and may be an officers collar badge. |

Graham,
Nice to find another collector of these relative rarities, and even nicer to see some examples! I've seen both the Newcastle ones, but the Paddington one is new to me, as is the Tynemouth one. I have a Middlesborough badge in GM, which I'm also convinced is VTC... I've also got a reasonable collection of Mufti badges, and you're post has prompted me to get my camera out and put together an album. I'll get busy over the next couple of weeks and see what I can do! Best regards, Tim |

Cheers Tim. Aside from these few VTC badges, I did an illustrated article for the Military Modeller about 20yrs ago on the VTC, as they were virtually unknown in the collecting world.
On top of which I must have about a 100 photo's of various Corps and individuals and was fortunate to get hold of some Magazines for the Luton Battalion of Bedfordshire Volunteer Regiment, which has some stunning photo's of members prior to, and after the July 1916 changeover. Are you a researcher as well as a collector? |

The Newcastle VTC one, which due to it's size, may be a collar badge. |
