Thanks for the comparison Walter. The vendor has a couple of the cast badges on offer this week. Odd that these badges are being copied. They are not difficult to find.

There's a possibility that a member of RCEME made the cast badge. As an ex member of REME (I transferred from the North Satffords) I wouldn't be surprised at anything that was done in army workshops. As an example when I was with 50 Command Wksp REME in Hong Kong our metalworkers has quite business going chrome plating stable belt buckles.

Hello,
According to my RCEME friends, the original cap badges were in fact made by the newly formed RCEME members who did not want to wait for the Ordnance issue. DT. |

I have seen REME badges in the corps museum that were amde , and worn , in the Far East that bear very little resemblance to the official badge having been made from written descriptions not a drawing. In REME and I would imagine all CREME and RAEME etc , all sorts of strange things were made at different times.I believe in fact that all the origina; REME badges would have been of then plastic type anyway so perhaps craftsman who didn't like them would have made their own anyway.
