WWI uniforms for identification
Can anyone suggest which regiment's uniforms are shown in these photos? Probably a cavalry regiment?

My guess would be 10th (Hackney) Bn, London Regiment (TF)

I agree on the group photo being 10th London but the horseman in the other photo isn't. Still trying to work that one out.

Soldiers commonly collected buttons and cap and shoulder titles of regiments alongside whom they served or, in some cases, met in passing and wearing them on a belt for off duty and walking out must have been permitted as examples are numerous. I can't make out the 's' but it's likely another shoulder title or cap badge.
So called 'hate belts', with the addition of German insignia, are fairly common on ebay and various forums and so named for the legend that the enemy insignia came from dead bosies of the men slain by the wearer and not, as is much more likely, from trades with POWs and other souvenir hunters. |
