Craig I thought you would understand the angle I was coming from, but am happy to elaborate.

When it comes to NZEF badges that have been modified to represent a totally different corps, that is extremely rare.
In the case of the NZASC DC badges on page 268 of Corbetts book, they just don’t make sense, why would they use a ASC badge??? So I would call BS on that one until someone offers up some form of proof.

In the case of your modified Stokes NZMC badge, I believe stokes badges were primarily supplied to New Zealand, where as the NZEF forces in Europe usually sourced British made badges, taking into account that prior to the formation of the “NZ Dental Service Corps” (name changed April 1916 to the NZDC) all dental staff were issued NZ medical corps badges, so your badge has possibilities.
If your Stokes NZMC badge was to fit anywhere don’t you think it's start would most likely be in New Zealand circa 1916?

However, I did not know you had acquired it directly from a veterans estate, so I look forward to the NZDC veterans details?

When the NZEF Main Body left New Zealand each of the ten transports had a dental officer attached to the Medical Corps.
The following photo was taken aboard HMNZT 7 (Limerick), seated in the middle is Wellington dentist Captain Ernest Herbert Rawson who is wearing a NZ Medical Corps cap badge.

NZ Dentists worked in Egypt before moving to the Western Front with the New Zealand Division in April 1916. The dental officers attached to the N.Z.M.C. were transferred to the NZDC.

The following photo of Sergeant-Major Alfred Victor Beeson, Reg No 18150, of the New Zealand Dental Corps, was taken in New Zealand and he is wearing a New Zealand made cap badge.

Note the positioning of the NZ is much higher compared to the British made badges.

The following photo of Captain Garnett Stafford Gresham, Reg No 50127, of the New Zealand Dental Corps, was also taken in New Zealand.
Unlike Sergeant-Major Beeson's cap badge, Gresham's badge has cut outs above the scroll similar to Craig's NZMC badge, except Gresham's badge also has the letters NZ on the ferns adjacent to the DC.

Fantastic, NZ made officers DC badge, the only version I didn't have a picture of, amazing the bigger picture you get to see when everyone shares their information, just need Craig to share his.
