I thought you'd pop up with info at some point, thanks.
The lugs / slider issue re. Guards badges hadn't occurred to me - early 70's saw the khaki beret being adopted by the Royal Anglians and the KORBR and other regiments?
It could be that production standardised on a beret with slider pocket - or an individual officer procured a spare beret from somewhere - or it's a put together by a collectors or dealer. If the latter it was done some time ago by the look of it.

I have two Coldstream Guards WO's berets, at least one of them has the slider pocket but they have the badge backing patch, so the pockets stitching isn't visible on the outside, and they'll be later wear than this one with the bullion star.

This Grenadier Guards beret will date from the same period as the Coldstream officer's one, having a plastic headband and no badge backing, it has the lugged grenade as you'd expect and a slider pocket.

Welsh Guards badges with sliders would need the slider pocket. Also attached corps cap badges, ACC, RAPC, AGC etc. There is only one NSN sequence from 8405-99-132-2248 - sizes 52-64 for khaki berets so a general issue.

There are also Grenadier and Coldstream ORs anodised badges with a slider. They are both pretty scarce items and much later than the early 1970s.
Supposedly, there is also an Irish Guards AA with a slider but I've never come across an example. Inversely, also an AA Welsh Guards with lugs. Again not one I've come across.

I have GG and I think CG anod al with sliders, havnt seen other Guards anods with sliders or a WG with lugs, though I think "Anodised Aluminium: The 'No Bull' Cap Badge of the British Army" mentions WG with clutch pin fittings?

I have a letter somewhere from the Guards Museum stating that the Guards Division changed to the khaki beret in 1967- which would have coincided with the change that year to the adminstrative divisions in the infantry.

Never saw an example issued, worn or even mentioned during my service. (Not to say they weren't, just never saw them!)

I think the GG and CG anod al slidered are marked to The London Badge and Button Co, I don't know if they're private commisions perhaps produced with an eye to the collectors market?

My thoughts on it are that they are for the cap rather than beret. Using a slider would stop the need to pierce the cap,so it could be then recycled to another Regt.

I see what you mean, but that wouldn't apply with the forage caps of the Guards regiments.

Hello all,
The beret looks absolutely correct for a post 1967, pre 1989 Coldstream Guards Officer.
Commonly - Guards Officers used either (Guards) rank stars OR the lapel stars/ devices from their respective mess Dress uniforms.

Reference is from an MOD document titled "Army Clothing Catalogue".

I think EER was East of England Regiment - short lived TA unit that became 3 R ANGLIAN in 2006.

see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_of_England_Regiment?
