help -- SHIELD/CROSS badge coloring -- CFPU Canadian Army Film and Photo Unit
hi . . .
in the process of coloring monochrome images of my great uncle . . . i want to get the colors right. for now, i'm not sure about the shield with cross badge on his upper arm (see attached image) . . . NOTE: this is a WORK-IN-PROGRESS so don't consider this image to be a good ref, at least for colors! :) my great uncle in this photo is LIEUTENANT GORDON AIKMAN. thank you, and kind regards, paul |

Hello Paul, Welcome to the Forum.
The patch on your great uncle is the 21st Army Group patch, blue on red.

hi bill,
thank you for such a fast reply! i was wondering about this, similar to what you said, blue on red with white / / / red only in outline. (see on jeep in attached photo here.) paul |

Is that a general list brass officer's badge on the cap?

Hello David, The CFPU wore the cap badge of their original unit, or the general list badge if they were not from a corps or regiment. In the first image he appears to be wearing a regimental badge, but I can't make out the unit.
Paul, I am not sure I understand your question in your last post? The patch on the jeep is the 21st Army Group formation sign. The last image is very interesting. Note the variety of headdress being worn, and the variety of uniforms.
