I think your cap is post WW1. The peak is too long to be the 1905 pattern worn pre and in in the early part of WW1. I think if you compare your cap to some of those posted by Taff(chief chum) you will see what I mean.

As Mark says, it's a post-war cap Simon.
Probably 1920s/30s.

Mark, Taff thank you for your valued opinions. I am still unsure why it has the thin chin strap. I think that the lack of markings and oilskin are significant in it being a later than war time cap.

I have bought a cap similar to yours in the past on eBay as it had a Great War type chinstrap. I wanted the chinstrap.
There could have been an overlap when the older type chinstrap was the type issued with the new cap. We know how old stock has to be used up in the military. Regards, Paul.

I have at least one post-war cap with a wartime strap which suggests that Paul has probably hit the nail on the head.

First is a late Great War other ranks trench cap, other two are officers types-unable to give comment on age. Regards, Paul.
