G'day Chay

What you have here is the unofficial WW1 theatre made Australian 13th Light Horse hat badge, there are also matching collars. Its difficult to say if yours is a good one or not, however just to let you know that they have been reproduced many times over, over many years. That said however the back looks to be ok to me.

Regards

Phil.

G'day Phil,
Thank you!
I did see only one thread here on these but the photos are not clear really, I would like to see what the reproduction looks like, then I took these photos there is a slight glare on the front around the legs.
Interesting that these were theatre made, the base metal looks to have a red colour to it the same colour as what the lugs and sliders are made from on sand cast badges from Egypt?
Kind regards Chay

They were mostly made in Egypt however I have been told Tift Taft in the UK also made some. This would make sense as the 13th LH was one of only 2 regiments that served on both the Western Front and in Palestine.

Kind regards Chay

It's a Canadian badge - CEF 8th Battalion ("The Black Devils").

Hi All,
According to Cox's book, this Little Black Devil with the "3" is for the 144th Infantry Battalion CEF.
Cheers, Tinto
