Are you sure? The ribbons on the officer in the IWM photo (DSO, MC and bar, MID) don't match the medals as sold.

Just to complete that useful list, Eddie, I think that green was also 'Intelligence', and more likely to be seen in a formation HQ.

Indeed the medals do not match as there is no DSO, MC and Bar or MID! Although perhaps the faces do.

Back to the drawing board and more research needed.

Apologies to all for false intelligence. Should have gone to Specsavers.

No offence meant at all - but the Brigadier in the middle has a DSO and two MCs. Which Anstruther didn't.

A "possible" ID of the Brigadier in the middle.

Brigadier Edmund Frank "Trotsky" Davies (Royal Ulster Rifles).
He had the DSO (1945) as well as MC (1920 Mesopotamia) and bar (1938 Palestine). Was SOE, parachuted into Albania (later wounded and captured) and (according to one unsubstantiated internet reference) was serving in Jerusalem contemporary to the photo. It appears that while commander of 9th Infantry Brigade was appointed Military Governor over areas of Jerusalem.

A photo in which he is identified.

and something additional found

Captioned - On inspection journey by armoured car along the railway from Jerusalem to Artuf: Brigadier Edmond F. Davies, commanding the 9th Infantry Brigade.

Superb detective work there, thank you.

To square the circle, the GOC is the later General Sir Gordon Macmillan KCB KCVO CBE DSO MC** , late of the Argylls. Commanded 15th Scottish & 51st Highland Divisions in NW Europe.

Blackadder2016 and Staffsyeoman,

Thank you for nailing that - at least I managed to identify General MacMillan correctly!
