Default 49th Hertfordshire Glengarry

Hi picked this up within a grouping recently bought at auction, most important question forefront in my mind is this an Original badge? and don't like asking this bit but for peace of mind need to know its value if I was to purchase it?

Thought and still do think what I paid was fair but then Auction costs and what they charged to pack and ship! Well!!! If all you acquired are fake badges, Copies!? becomes a bit downheartening! Bid on what I could see in a photo all the sweathearts are nice well chuffed there, but icing on the cake would be if this was the real deal! Looks old and not aged, wear is there in the right places and lugs look good, personally I think it fine but don't have many Glengarry badges YET! your thoughts on this appreciated! Many thanks Billy

Billy,

I think its a deliberately aged copy, sorry.

The rubbing on the front is consistent with an old die, re-used rather than wear from constant use.

regards

Hi Billy
I bow to Simon's experience and expertise of course, but it would certainly have fooled me ! The lugs in particular look well placed and "pukka" and the badge itself looks well struck to me. However, do not feel confident enough to challenge Simon. Regards Jeff

Difficult to see what the lugs are but they look more 'copper' than brass to me, which might make it a Fox restrike?
Cheers,
Alex

Jeff,

Thanks for the comments but these are notoriously difficult to verify one way or another, so, any one of us could be right.
