Default Pioneer Corps?

Yesterday an old chap gave me the badge in the attached pictures. He had a collection of about 80 badges most like this one were very suspect.

The badge is obviously a Pioneer Corps, but seems to have some possibly arabic writing on the middle scroll.Anyone know which country might have had a badge like this ?

Hi PB,

it is the Indian Pioneer Corps' cap badge. A very lovely badge you have here indeed!
Cheers
Phil

May I ask you if you've just bought it or had it in your collection for a while?

I am not questioning your expertise but the first original picture is a cast badge, which most Indian badges you find are also(generalization) as are many others but the link you have put to ebay also appears to be a cast badge. Do you have an issue with the seller or do you know something that you are not writting down? Please explain as I am always interested in learning something new.

I was merely going by the lack of definition of the script when compared to the original that 8thFoot showed. It may be that I am mistaken but I just called it as I saw it.

The badge came from a general collection of badges which as I said in the original post appeared to be mostly duds.I have no interest in Indian badges or Pioneer Corps
If anyone thinks the badge is genuine and is interested in it please PM me and I am sure we can do a deal

This is Devanagri writing and thus most possibly the language is Hindi.

I can not understand it (being almost a nitwit in Hindi), nor find it in a a dictionary, but the second word contains VIJAY and that means VICTORY.

Acording to the Indian Army website, their motto is:

Quote:
SHRAM SARVA VIJAYEE -meaning 'With Labour, everything can be won'.
but that is not what we see here.

The British Army Pioneer Corps motto in Latin was "Labor Omnia Vincit" which usually translates as "Work conquers all" a close match to the Indian version?

I guess that "Labor Omnia Vincit" can be lossely translated as "With Labour, everything can be won". And that is what the Indian Army website says that SHRAM SARVA VIJAYEE means. Thus I rate all three as the same. I transribe this in Devanagri: श्रम सर्व विजयी

But the badge says something as आनेण विजयते, which I transcribe as ĀNEN VIJAYTE (approx.)
This, apart from VIJAY (winning/victory) which is in both, is different.
