Default Royal Fusiliers variant

Still working through my recently acquired badge collection I have come across this unusual Royal Fusiliers cap badge. Unusual in that there is no gap between the bursting flames and the grenade.

I am going to be looking through my Royal Fusiliers postcards to see if there is an example of this variant being worn. Until then does anyone know anything about this badge?

I have posted examples of the pre 1901 version and a slidered example for comparison. As the full flame variant is lugged it might have been worn for a period between the two other versions.

Thank you Alan; is your version lugged?

I think I have a couple of photographs of this variant being worn but it is hard to be sure due to the angle the photographs were taken from. It is usually quite difficult to get clear and crisp photographs of badges being worn as the photographer usually concentrated on the sitter not the cap badge that he was wearing.

I will post a couple of pictures tomorrow.

Alan,

could you please tell me which part of the back of the badge the slider is fitted to. As mine has a raised lump between the lugs where a slider might have once been fitted.

Thank you

Simon

It sits at the top of the flames. This is just a maker's variant and nothing more I think.

Perhaps other members might have one to compare.
No makers mark on mine, I'm afraid.

I have badges whish are "unvoided" between flame & ball, I take them to be just manufacturers minor variations.

Never seen that variant before now. I am guessing that it dates from between wars. Does anyone know for sure?

I think that that Lambourne is considered a war time (Great War) manufacturer.

Thank you Nozzer, I can see that they made badges during WW1, but did they continue to do so between the wars?
