Default King's Royal Rifle Corp, Militia ??

Having had yet another discussion with Andy P regarding this badge and for the umpteenth time I have been told it is wrong, or at least he thinks it is wrong, I am throwing it to the mercy of the many experts on the forum !!

I personally think that it is too well made to be a fake and looking back at earlier debates about badges that belong in " Fakeland " as Andy described them, I see that in post 12, he retracted his opinion that the KRRC badges should always have voided crowns and voided centres because he had acquired a Gaunt unvoided badge, obviously I do not know which badge he refers to ??

I might add that this model came from a very reputable seller and was not cheap, I do concede that it looks newish but that's not unusual, so come on lads, how many can back me on this one ????

Dave.

I don't think that a very well made badge makes it original or that a poorly made one automatically makes it fake, just my opinion.

Gents,

Does anyone have a known pukka example for comparison?

Cool Quality!

I think Magpie has a very good point inasmuch that poorly made badges are not necessarily fakes, I think some of the badges these days with "Lambourne" on the slider are much improved versions of the originals which were anything but quality items.

As for this badge in question, I have seen these around for a while and have never been tempted to buy one, I do collect KRR badges by the way.

Also seen occasionally doing the rounds is the w/m (possibly plated) version of this badge; sometimes lugged, sometimes slidered.

I would counsel against mixing sub-contractor and/or wartime badges which were often poor quality with pre 1900 badges which were generally high quality.

Dave's badge is modern and I hope the dealer gives him a full refund.

Thanks for those... very similar, of course, to the Central London Rangers badge.

Hi Dave, and all,
Here is my lot for comparison.
The solid centre badge has been named a fake but as I mentioned in a previous thread, it was among a collection of genuine badges from WW1 period.
Cheers,
John

John,
Some nice badges but I strongly suspect the voided example (No1) strayed into the collection well after WW1?

Noxin
If "learned reputable dealers" who are members of this Forum spent more time reading what Learned and Reputable collectors were posting, then items like this would not be offered for sale!

Dave,
I'm sorry but I tend to side with the camp that go for repro and would never offer one of these for sale as "Genuine" myself!

I'm pretty certain the voided examples are correct and of the period and the non voided badges modern and post 1970?

With regards to the "Fakeland" thread it was the common KC post Edwardian badge that should be voided in 99.9999% of cases!
