BAYS
As one of the diminishing number of BAYS left....Have this on me!
So named because they rode 'Bay' horses....... Amalgamated with 1st.The King's Dragoon Guards in 1959 to become '1st.The Queen's Dragoon Guards' As a point of interest to me could you post a picture of reverse of badge please? (Don't worry I was once asked if the black/Silver badge pictured was.'Broughton Astley Drama Society') Last edited by sketchley kid; 06-03-15 at 12:49 PM. |

Whoops.....unfortunately not happy with reverse..........
better with a reinforcing wire behind crown......... Here's my original... (Third badge is a good example of reinforcing wire....even has someone's number scratched on it) Last edited by sketchley kid; 06-03-15 at 05:06 PM. |

Bays
We did not wear the beret until mid 1946, the red patch was adopted at the same time, before Bays OR's wore side caps.....

Further reading reveals that the bay-coloured horses were adopted by the regiment in about 1767; other cavalry regiments apparently had black horses. The name 'Bays' incorporated in the official title in 1870. Thanks SK for the info. N
