Default Wirral Community College CCF ?

Just acquired this badge which I am sure is not a beret badge but is it for the unit it say on the label, the hunting horn suggests the Wirral Hundred.

The shield is from the arms of Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council. Granted in 1975.

Just checked the latest "Locstat" (Location Statement) which lists all ACF and CCF units. Wirral Community College isn't on that list, nor is there any mention of the school website of the school having a CCF.....

Most interesting, I have just found this being offered on eBay. If the description is correct, then I am not sure which category the badge would come in.

There are several Further Education establishments that offer a "pre uniformed services" course (normally a BTEC Qualification) - in some of these the students wear a quasi military uniform (there is one such course at Chesterfield College where the students wear a "uniform"). The aim is to bring participants up to the required standard (in terms of fitness, self confidence, educational qualifications and interview techniques) for entry into a uniformed service (Army, RN,RAF, Police Service, Fire Service, Ambulance service, Prison Service etc). These course are NOT sponsored by the MOD but are funded by local authorities, they are NOT Cadet Forces in any sense of the word. Your choice Peter but I wouldn't consider it to be something that I would include in a collection of military insignia.

Wirral Metropolitan College has 'PUBLIC and UNIFORMED SERVICES' courses that include : Military Preparation Diploma etc.

Quote:
You will be expected to wear a uniform throughout the course and will be expected to maintain it to a high standard. You will also be expected to demonstrate a military attitude in college and in all the work you do, including achieving high standards of attendance and punctuality.

Can't find any photos of "beret" badge being worn but students do wear a 'slide' with "WMC Military Prep College" (possibly indicating course level ?) and another that appears to show blue/yellow badge being worn by a couple of students on left arm (completed course ?).

Thanks Mike.

Paul, i certainly wouldn’t include it in any collection of mine but it is interesting to find out exactly what it is.

A bit of info about the Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council emblem :

Quote:
The gold trident is from the crest of the County Borough of Wallasey, epitomising the varied maritime activities of the Wirral - ports, shipbuilding, ferrying, fishing, sailing, seaside holiday resorts. Suspended from the trident is a conventionalised representation of the Wirral Horn, seen in the arms of Wallasey and the device of the Wirral UDC. This recalls the tenure of the Master Forestership of the Forest of Wirral by 'cornage', the actual horn eventually coming to the Stanley family.
