My opinion was based on a quick look on my phone , looking at a larger image on my laptop I've changed my mind. The items have a net type finish rather than the cord/spiral type seen on a boss.

Question Does size matter ?

The photos and sizes of the button/boss are interesting , I found a site selling repro (Victorian ?) 'netted buttons and toggles for Patrol tunics and Hussar tunics' but they are 24mm.

http://www.victorianstrollers.co.uk/...e/buttons.html

The smaller of the items in this thread is 28mm , so it is 'possibly' a standard 25mm button with a net cover but the other one is 33mm , which seems very large for a button.

The Household Division one shown is post #10 is described as "30 line. small" .

NB. - Ligne, or line, is a unit of measurement that was used for centuries prior to the adoption of metric system, to define the diameter of buttons.

A 30 line button is 19.1mm , so far smaller than those posted.

Does anyone know what size the button/boss on the top of forage cap was ?

Photo shows comparative sizes.
