Thanks Neil,
I have a lot of documentation relating to the Lancashire Hussars but this is the first time I have heard of the Churchill connection. Peter

His medals are all in the Cabinet War rooms, and the subject of considerable controversy, along with the effects of Chartwell etc.

Wow!
Off subject a little, but there is mention above of one of his expensive books, with original signature.
I believe the same bookshop has today emailed their "customers" offering an extremely rare "pamphlet" dated 1903, First Edition, entitled "Mr Brodrick's Army" It is without doubt the rarest and most sought after item for Churchill collectors. A cool USD75,000. I believe it will sell quickly as well. The last one at the same price in 1999 went within 24 hours. It's a different planet out there it seems......! Cheers, Neil |

Neil,
The bookstore I visited was Chartwell Booksellers, New York City. Not much of a good bookstore to visit really, you do better shopping their catalog online. I did learn that there are no stores specializing in military items in NYC any longer. Rats! If I ever strike it lucky I'll have to go back. Don

Don. Yes. I have bought a few books from them, but this is well out of my league!! There are a couple of guys that specialise in Churchill in the US that I have dealt with, as I (try to!) collect his First Editions.
Guess we both wait for the big win on Saturday night. Good luck! Cheers, Neil |

WSC's Uniforms
[QUOTE=Neil Pearce;95053]
My understanding is that he would have been entitled wear the following uniforms up to the beginning of the First War: 21st Lancers - Sudan Hi Neil The rules and regulations concerning who is entitled to wear the uniforms of various other regiments and corps were and still are very closely monitored. It is my understanding that WSC was "attached" to the 21st Lancers and would therefore have retained all his 4th Hussars embellishments. Prior to the Charge at Omdurman the 21L rated very low in terms of prestige and achievement; WSC was commissioned into a regiment far senior and would not have felt the need to even think about it. Best wishes Gordon |

Hi Gordon
You are of course correct. He didn't resign his commission until about 5 months after Omburman. I can't imagine he would have worn other than 21st Lancer kit at Omburman - he would have stood out like a sore thumb otherwise. I guess we will never know...... Best, Neil |
