25th RF Frontiersmen
What are commonly described as RNVR or RNAS Shoulder Titles are in fact
Mufti (Plain Clothes) Badges to show that a "civilian" in plain clothes was a man fighting for his country, albeit on the Home Front. This is can be seen in a period Gamage's advert. A RNAS and RNVR AAC badge are shown together with a RNVR AAC Dover Mufti Badge. |

I have copied this post from another Forum as it shows a 25th RF badge being sold by Gamages. Gamages show what is regarded as the first pattern badge, based on a 14 flame grenade, with it's distinctive scroll. This design as never formally issued by the ACD and later designs (cast rather than die struck) examples do exist which are not surprising as the regt spent its war in Southern Africa.
I did wonder whether Gaylor's attribution of being made in a London garage might be Chinese Whispers! |
