Default Old heraldic badge

Gentlemen
I have no idea what this badge could be. I am only guessing that it is military. It could be an old livery badge. Any ideas welcome.
Jim.

I do not think that it is military, I suspect that it is the crest of a city or town as it has a mural crown. It is a demi lion holding a severed head on a pole which should narrow down the options.

The most famous severed head in history is possibly that of John the Baptist but his head was served up on a platter not stuck on a spike.

It may relate to some event in English history such as the gunpowder plot where someone has been brought to justice in this town which adopted this specific Crest.

It’s from a horse harness looking at the fixing, and probably lead based

It looks like the crest of the Scarborough family, the head being "a Saracen's head".

Gentlemen, thank you for your input. Arthur, I believe you have hit the nail on the head.....it does indeed look like the Scarborough family crest. The only difference being the skewered head is looking forward. There is a picture on the website...My Family Silver, which apparently is taken from Fairbairns book of crests 1905 edition.
